Elephant Update: June

Summer news from the Supreme Court

Overturning of Roe v. Wade:

Statement to the Press from Chairwoman Lisa Evans: “Any day that moves toward protecting life is a momentous day. Any action that protects the heartbeat of someone who may have a positive impact on their family, community, nation or the world is a day worth celebrating. The overturning of Roe v. Wade returns the decision of abortion back to the states, to the grassroots voter, as set forth by the 10th Amendment. The Klickitat County Republicans firmly believe that a strong family is the core for building a strong nation, and we will continue to stand up for the sanctity of human life at all stages of development.”

Striking down NY’s law that placed undue burden to prove “proper cause” to carry inside or outside the home. This article is a good summary of the ruling.

While this does not impact WA state or impact I-1639, it is the first time in over a decade that the Supreme Court has ruled on a 2nd Amendment issue, and it creates a “more clear roadmap” to the lower courts when considering gun control laws.

Finally, a big one for the state of WA, the First Amendment, and religious liberty in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District. This has been ongoing since 2015:

August 2nd is the Primary. Expect to see ballots in your mailbox in the next few weeks. Vote wisely, and most importantly, return your ballot!

Mark your calendars:

The next Klickitat County Republican meeting is Tuesday, July12th 6-8 pm at the Dallesport Community Center. Rep. Brad Klippert, candidate for Congress CD04, is a confirmed attendee. We have had several candidates, from both the County and the District, at our meetings. This is a great time to ask questions so you can vote with confidence.
