The Elephant Update

Welcome to The Elephant Update, a monthly update to help Klickitat County Republicans stay up to date with local, state, and national issues of concern or interest.

My name is Lisa Evans, and I am honored to be the Klickitat County Republican (KCR) Chairwoman for the next 2 years. In short, my focus is to have “an elephant in every room.” What does that mean exactly?

For the past several weeks, I have both attended and organized several protests. Every event brought out new and energized voters and, best of all, they brought their children–future voters and leaders. My hope is that with the support of the Klickitat County Republicans, we find and connect with the voters who have the same disappointments as you and I; that we fill every end of this county with Republican voices, and where the room is full of Republicans, that we recognize their efforts and support where and when we can. A big first step and top priority is communication; improving our current methods of communication and expanding our membership. This monthly newsletter is part of that priority.

Every month, we will be introducing you to the Republican Leadership in and around our County. This month we are featuring:

Lisa Evans, KCR Chairwoman. US Naval Academy Graduate and former US Marine, I am a mom of 3 teens, a business owner, and a resident of Husum. My husband of 26 years and I enjoy the outdoors, to include hunting, target shooting, bike riding, horseback riding, and hiking along streams. My favorite color: red. One accomplishment that I am proud of: attending the Republican National Convention in 2016. My advice: Be Bold.

Peter Leon, KCR Vice Chairman. Married 26 years to Therese Leon.  4 sons, 3 grand daughters and 2 grandsons.  US Naval Academy Graduate, Retired Navy Captain, Retired Ford Motor Company Quality Director, Retired INSITU Quality Director, Church Elder, Pastor, Church Planter, with an apostolic ministry.  Former Chair of the Klickitat County Republican Party (KCR).  Lieutenant in the West Division of the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office Posse, overseeing basic pistol training and qualification. Gentleman rancher with horses, sheep, goats, chickens dogs and cats.  I like to build things. Lived in Italy, Japan, and China, and have been to all states except Maine. I am proud that for the most recent KCR Platform, we added that KCR supports civil discourse.

Of Interest:

Education: No doubt that education is top priority on everyone’s minds right now. We have all been impacted, from the youngest to the eldest, with the closing of schools and having to make tough choices. Representative Vicki Kraft is introducing House Bill 2933, the Education Choice Scholarship Program. This Bill proposes that the public school money allocated for your child could be used instead for homeschooling or private school options. More information can be found on her website. Please contact her with your support, input, feedback, or opinion as soon as possible. Email: vicki.kraft@leg.wa.gov Phone: (360) 786-7994 Mail: 436 John L. O’Brien Building, PO Box 40600, Olympia, WA 98504-0600

Keep your ears open for Initiative-1109 that the organization Common Sense Sex Ed is trying to get enough signatures to put on the next ballot. I-1109 returns control of curriculum content to local school boards, gives parents the choice to opt-in (rather than mandatory), requires materials to be wholesome enough for public broadcast standards, and allows citizens to view the materials online. Visit CommonSenseSexEd.com for more in-depth information.

We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men – not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular.
